Media assessment 1: Learner response

 1) Feedback:

Total =  16 = Grade 5

WWW - This is a good first assessment in Media with clear potential to go higher. Well done!

EBI - The longer mark questions are key to the top levels. Annotating the unseen text will help with                  this for Q3.

       - Question focus is also critical for the highest grades.

2)

Q1: 1/1

Q2: 1/1

Q3: 5/12

Q4: 2/2

Q5: 4/6

Q6: 3/8

3) Q4 was one of my stronger questions and I think this is because it is based on denotation and connotation as I seem to be quite good at this

4) Q6 was my weakest question as I didn't have time to complete it but also I didn't have enough annotations in order to analyse successfully

5) In the advert for Heat featuring Beyoncé, the upper-case bold typography for the text ‘HEAT’ suggests a stylish and classy theme to go with the main character. This theme is carried through the red velvety looking dress worn by the main subject. Also Beyoncé is used as the model in order to carry through the stylish and classy theme because she is a well known celebrity for her a hugely successful solo career as a singer. One of her most popular albums is dangerously in love; this will be recognised by the audience and the two things will automatically linked together in their minds. This is effect of romance is further represented by the connotations of 'HEAT' which offer a extended idea of romance and attraction.

This advert is also dominated by the colour red. This has connotations of romance and being sexually appealing but also royalty and power. The combination of these connotations create a power full effect on the audience which is exaggerated by the snapshot of the product in the bottom right. The product itself has a red bottom which represents the romance aspects but also a gold cap which not also royalty but also style and wealth.

The central image features Beyoncé in a powerful pose wearing a low-cut red dress. This combines with the colour connotations to create a seductive effect. The overall image also has connotations of class and wealth with the costume appearing to be luxury or designer, fitting in with the connotations created by the typography. Overall this advert expresses itself in a romantic but wealthy way which matches with how the fragrance is meant to present itself but presumably also smell.
