Advertising: Key conventions

Part 1: Skittles advert analysis

1) What key conventions of print adverts can you find and what are the connotations or deeper meanings of each convention? For each convention, write about how it communicates meaning to the audience. See the Maltesers advert above for an example of how to do this.

Colour scheme: A mainly red rauinbow colour scheme makes the ad eye catching and the rainbow is also used in the slogan of the ad

Slogan: 'taste the rainbow' this hows that not only the skittles are colourfull but also taste colourfull attracting a larger audience

Central image: in this case its also the product image and this makes the audience know what the product looks like

Logo: the logo is on the pack shot which will also creat a link in the audiences brain if they ever see the product on the shelf

2) What is the USP (unique selling point) for Skittles and how do you know? Does the advert use any of persuasive techniques listed above?

The usp of this product is the rainbow based advertaismet that is eye catching but also play full targeting the ad at a younger audience
